The Truth Beneath The Rose by ~Baller25:iconBaller25:

Transylvania, Romania, home of the living dead. My home and the home to the royal Dragonair clan. We the Dragonair clan have lived and fed in Transylvania for over a 1,000 years. And yet no one has ever known about us. We are like the secret police. We keep the peace and protect the humans. We are vampires. Fallen Angels thrown down from heaven by God himself. My name is Rachel Draven and this is my story about how I brought disaster to my clan.
As old as I was in vampire years I always looked 21 and never got older, no matter what. I was one of the youngest vampires, only 307 years old and one of the brightest. I loved our history and how we became to be. My blood mother, Tatiana, is one of the elders of the Dragonair and very beautiful too. There are about 250 of us in the Dragonair clan for now. We don’t really change any humans into one of us like we use to. Before we had as many to build an army but many were killed during battles and wars we’ve had with other vampires who wanted to claim our land.
As I sit and watch the sun go down I take in every moment. Normally here in Transylvania it’s either, raining or snowing. A moment later Stephan appeared beside of me. He was the leader of our bad boys groups we seemed to have.
“Hello Rachel,” he said as he flung his arm lazily over my shoulder. He was a guy you would hear all the human girls call him: HOT! I mean yes he was very hot and everything, with his shoulder length silky chocolate hair, six pack body, golden eyes, and his hot features. But he was too much of a jerk than anything else.
“What do you want Stephan?” I asked as I rolled my eyes as I shrugged his arm off my shoulder.
“Why you of course my sweet.” Stephan answered with a sly grin. His teeth shiny white and his fangs pointy and sharp.
“Piss off,” I said as I stood up and looked down at the people walking around the beautiful old Gothic church.
“William’s calling a meeting, now.” And with that Stephan disappeared. Sighing I leaned up against the wall. William was the substitute leader for now. Out last leader, Demetrio, had been betrayed by one of our own and killed. Demetrio was like a father to me and I was one of his favorites. With another sigh I flinted back to the mansion. Home to the elders of the Dragonairs clan.
When I reached the Dragonair estate everyone was there already sitting down or standing up so they could hear what William was saying. I pushed my way through the crowd until I was nearly in the front.
What’s this all about? I telepathically asked my best friend Donia who stood right next to me.
William wants for us to have a real leader. He doesn’t want to be just the substitute. He wants the elders to call for the Leviathan to start. Answered Donia as her golden green eyes met my dark golden brown eyes. The Leviathan was in other words a battle to see who will become the next leader. No one was forced to fight; it was only the ones that wanted to become leader.
Finally, I said smirking as I paid attention to William. He was nearly 767 years of age and looked only 31 years old! He was handsome but it’s not like I like him (ewww). His sandy brown hair was curly and short. His light golden brown eyes were filled with anger and blood lusting. His pale skin was a bit paler than normal which meant that he needed to feed soon. His black tunic was loose enough for his athletic body. And his black leather pants were tight as were his knee high leather black boots. That was what mostly all the men wore and it didn’t bother them. I mean us women normally wore a black shirt that was tight around our bodies along with the black leather pants and knee hi-heeled leather boots. It was tradition to wear this uniform once a week. And we seemed to always wear it on Sunday no matter what.
Where’s Tatiana? I asked a few minutes later.
Where else? Donia answered as she nodded her head towards my right. Turning my head I saw her sitting along with the other elders who were all sitting up against the wall listening intently to what William was raving about.
And Jezabel? I asked as I raised an eyebrow. Jezabel was one of the younger fledglings and a huge slut. But she was one of many. Again Donia nodded her blond head but this time to my left. I rolled my eyes when I saw the brown haired, brown eyed, Jezabel sitting on top of one of the bad boys lap whose name was Strider. Plus they were making out which no one seemed to care about.
After William had finished his speech he looked over to the elders to wait for their response. The elders only looked at each other once for them to know their answers. Tatiana then stood up to speak. Her red hair braided and slung behind her back. Her golden blue eyes were concentrating on William.
“We agree to your request William.” People began to roar with happiness. “The Leviathan will begin on Halloween which is in four months and who ever wants to compete should begin getting ready now.”
“Alright then,” I said to Donia, “I’ll see you later.”
“Where are you off to now?” Donia asked before I could flint away.
“Somewhere I can be alone with myself.” I answered as I saw Velkan walking towards my direction.
“Hello Rachel,” Velkan said with a low bow. My God was he HOT! His shoulder length blond hair covered up nearly his entire left golden deep blue eye. And the uniform just looked so good on his body I just wanted to tear it all off and see what he really looked like without anything on. But he was just yet another jerk like Stephan so that made me not like him. Plus he was one of Jezabel’s favorite pets.
“Velkan,” I answered with a fake smile. Before he could say another word Jezabel flinted over to Velkan’s side. But I didn’t wait to hear Jezabel because I flinted out of the mansion. Plus I didn’t want to get in the way of Donia and Jezabel. They both liked Velkan and wanted him for themselves so they were always fighting.
When I reached the church it was empty which made me even happier. The church had so much history behind it, it was amazing. The church was the first one the vampires ever made. And they architecture was so perfect; it was a mixture of all the worldwide churches and chapels. This church was where Da Vinci and all the great artists got inspired. And were the other churches got their ideas from. As I kneeled down before the alter I lit a red candle and prayed in Latin. After I had finished praying I went to my favorite spot. It was just above the organ and there was a seat just for me, made by Demetrio. I was hidden in the shadows and no one could see me unless they concentrated really hard to see me. I sat there and read until the sun rose into the sky. Then he came inside the church yet again. His name was Edward Taylor and he was visiting Romania to see the famous Transylvania and its arts and history. He was nearly 23 years old and good looking. His raven black hair was braided and long, it went past his shoulders. He had pitch black eyes as if you looked to long into them you could probably look into his heart and soul. Today he wore a black and green stripped shirt, torn up jeans, converse, and a worn out black leather jacket. He had been coming to the church everyday for the past week always with his notebook sketching or writing notes down. It was always so interesting to look into his mind and see what he was thinking when he came here. He was always full of ideas for his new book. He wrote historical fiction and his next book was about our life and history. He’d already written historical fiction about Egypt, Rome, Greece, and Italy. I had already ordered his books last night and hopefully they’d be here in two days of so. I had never talked to him and that’s how I wanted to keep it, well at least for now.
As I watched him, he was so into the history on the walls of the church. For such a young man he seemed so intelligent with his history which amazed me. After a few hours I finally decided to go back home and change my clothes. And just as I was about to flint away I accidentally dropped my book as I got up making the book hit the organ pipes. Edward looked up as the book continued to fall.
“Hello?” He said as he looked up in my direction. I stood still as a statue hopping he wouldn’t see me. He began walking forward towards the book. Bending over he picked it up but never looked away from the spot I was still hidden in the shadows.
“Look I know someone’s up there. I’m not going to hurt you okay? I just want to give this back to you. I swear I won’t do anything to you alright?” Edward said as he held the book up above him. I continued to stay silent. “Please don’t make me go up there. I didn’t bring my climbing equipment along with me.” Damn it, why the hell did I drop the freakin book! And if I flint he would hear the gush of air from the organ pipes. Crap!! Should I say something or no? My God!
“Look, come please come down!” Edward said with a sigh.
“Turn around and I’ll come down!” I said with a sigh.
“Ahhh, she finally speaks!” Edward said with a cute smile and he had these cute dimples. “Alright I’ll turn around just so you can come down.” Hands up above his head he turned around still smiling. Quickly and quietly I jumped down from my seat to the floor.
“Okay turn around,” I answered as I crossed my arms over my chest. As he turned around his eyes widened as he got his first look at me. “Hi,” I said with a bright smile.
“Umm...h....hi.” Edward said with a nervous smile. “I...umm...” he looked down at the book and chuckled nervously. “Here....here’s your...um...your book.” Slowly he handed me my book, his hand shaking.
“Thanks,” I answered with a smile as I took the book from his hand. With a nod of my head I turned around and began to walk slowly away.
“Wait,” Edward said before I could pass the threshold. Still smiling I turned around to face Edward. “Um...why were you up there?”
“Um...it’s my favorite place to be. I stay here nearly all the time. It’s like my second home.” I answered with a shrug.
“So you actually live here in Transylvania?” Edward asked in surprise. Silently I nodded with a smirk. “So you would know how to read the language then?”
“Of course,” I said with a laugh, “It’s my native tongue but I prefer English then any other language I know.”
“Good so then do you think maybe you can help me out translating?” He walked over to his notebook which lay on the floor. “Normally I would just use the internet and have it translate it for me.” Slowly I followed him.
“Do you mind if I go home and change first? I accidentally fell asleep here and I would need to bath too.” Edward looked at my auburn hair which seemed to be wild, with hairs sticking out everywhere.
“Sure,” Edward said with a shrug, “take your time. I’ll be here all day and more later on this week.”
“Okay then I’ll be back.” I said as I turned around again and headed out the door.
“What’s your name?” He asked before I could step down the stairs of the church.
“Rachel.” I said as I looked back smiling.
“I’m Edward.” He said shyly before running back inside the church. Still smiling I flinted home. I lived with Donia in a large house not to far from the Dragonair mansion. The house was white with blue trimming. It was a two story house with a car port right in front of the house along with a fountain. I didn’t use the front door instead I entered through my window to my room. Without turning on the lights I quickly picked out my clothes. I took a long hot bath and then changed into my new set of clean clothes. I braided my hair so that it wasn’t in my face. After slipping on my flat black boots I headed back to the church.
Edward was sitting up on a window looking at the stained glass eating a slice of pizza. When he saw me walk in he smiled and jumped off from the window. “I um...ordered pizza if you wanted any.” He pointed towards the box of pizza that was on the floor.
“No,” I said shaking my head, “I ate already.”
“Okay, so um let me get you my notes so you can write down the translations.” He grabbed his bag and pulled out his notebook and a pen. “Here.” He handed them to me his hand still shaking nervously.
“I’m sorry are your hands always shaking or what?” I asked my voice sounding a bit rude as I took the notepad and pen from his hands.
“Oh sorry it’s just that I’m nervous that’s all.” Edward answered with a sheepish grin.
“What’s there to be nervous about?” I asked as I walked towards the wooden chair next to the set of candles. Sitting down I crossed my legs and looked back at Edward who continued to look at me. He’d never actually talked to someone that looked liked me. I did that to every other human I talked to. That’s why I stood my distance from humans.
“Um...it’s kinda complicated.” Edward said as he looked away from me.
“Try me,” I said as I raised an eyebrow at him. I then looked down at the notebook and began translating. He was nervous to tell me, so to cool off he paced around the room thinking about random things.
“So what brings you here? And why all these notes and drawings? I asked, changing the subject to make him feel comfortable. Reading his mind he seemed happy with my questions this time.
“I’m a historical fictional writer and I wanted to spice up the flavor with the Transylvanian legends of vampires.” Edward answered feeling stress free. His heart was beating normal again, before it was thumping like crazy. “Since reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” Edward continued, “I’ve been curious about the different legends about vampires. And the Transylvanian legend was the one that stuck to me the most out of all the ones I’ve researched on.”
“Well I can tell you that Stoker made vampires sound and look evil.” I said with a chuckle. “He had vampires all wrong when he first began writing Dracula. First of all vampires can never be burned in the sun of die from it. Instead they glow like angels from heaven. Secondly vampires are not scared of crosses, holy water, or garlic. Thirdly if you stake a vampire’s heart you cannot kill them. Then only way to kill a vampire it to rip it to shreds and then burn the flesh right away. Fourth they can see themselves through mirrors. Fifth vampires are faster than lightning and very strong. Sixth there are vampires that have a special power but not all. Seventh not all vampires kill their meals. Normally they take what they need and the human is still alive and even some vampires drink from animals.” I looked at Edward to see him sitting on the floor just listening to me babble on about vampires. “Am I boring you?” I asked before reading his mind.
“Oh no,no,no.” Edward said shaking his head and hands. “Please continue, this is all very interesting.”
“Okay, well why don’t you ask me some questions then.” I asked with a small smile before looking back at my translations for him.
“Okay um...hmm let me think.” Edward looked up at the ceiling to think of a question. “Well do vampires form into bats at least?”
“Nope,” I answered laughing, “that’s that stupidest thing Stoker’s ever written about vampires.”
“Okay then how about the red eyes?”
“Nope, their eyes are either their eye color mixed with gold or their pitch black because they’re hungry and need to feed.”
“So is it true that God sent them down from heaven to earth? And the first one he threw down was Michael? But some of the angels followed Michael down too. And they landed here in Romania, Transylvania.”
“Correct.” I answered with a nod. “They then called themselves Fallen Angels. But the people of Romania called them vampires. They also go by blood drinkers, the cold ones, the pale ones, demons from hell, Satan’s children, and others.”
“I see.” Edward said with a firm nod as he lifted his hand to his chin. “So then after settling in Transylvania they spread all around the world creating newer vampires. Oh how about diseases? Can they get sick?”
“No, they are immune to all disease. They even survived the Black Plague.”
“Incredible,” Edward said as he sighed. “And they never age and never sleep.” I nodded my head to say yes as I continued to translate. I could have been done with it in less than a minute but I took my time to talk to him and not just read his mind. “How come you know so much about vampires?” Edward asked in amazement as he looked up at me in awe.
“I read too much,” I shrugged, “vampires have always drawn to me. And I also love history, especially European history above all.” I looked back down at the notebook. We fell silent and from reading Edward’s mind I could tell that he was so amazed about how much I knew. I smiled as he continued pondering on what he would write about.
“Well I think I’ve done all the translations for you that you have here.” I said an hour later. Edward cocked his head up from another notebook he had, he was writing notes about everything I told him. I got up from my seat and walked over to him. He jumped to his feet as I got closer.
“Thank you so much.” Edward said as he took the notebook and pen from my hands. “You don’t know how much time you saved me.”
“No problem,” I said with a smile. “Good luck on your book about vampires. I hope it will be a success for your future.”
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something though.” Edward said, his voice becoming nervous yet again. Instead of reading his mind, I waited looking very confused.
“Are you doing anything all day tomorrow?” He was going to ask me out! I couldn’t believe it! How American of him!
“Nothing really,” I shrugged. “Why you ask?”
“You know what never mind.” Edward said shaking his head, blushing.
“No, please,” I said with a stern face, “tell me.” My arms were folded across my chest as I played around with my silver cross that hung around my neck. Just to make him feel better I would say yes. But it was only going to be a one time thing and that would be all.
“I just wanted to know if you wanted to go out with me tomorrow.” He was sweating like seriously! The poor thing. “But you’re probably busy or already have a boyfriend. Or thinking I’m a lunatic because I barely met you a few hours ago. Or your not...”
“Stop,” I said as I put two of my fingers over his mouth. “I would love to go out with you tomorrow. I’ll meet you here at 9:30 a.m. and then we can take it from there. Okay?” Speechless Edward nodded his head, eyes widened in surprise. “Good,” I removed my fingers away from his mouth. “So I’ll see you tomorrow then.” I then turned to go, smiling happily. As I left I could hear Edward jumping up for joy and laughing in triumph. When I reached home, Donia was already there and was pissed off. I didn’t even have to guess that she and Jezabel got into another fight about Velkan.
“So who won?” I asked her when I sat beside her on the couch. Her clothes were all torn and her hair was all over the place.
“Shut up Rachel.” Snapped Donia as she turned her face to me. “I swear I just want to beat the crap out of that little slut.” She’d lost once again but I bet it wasn’t even a fair match, like always. Jezabel was never a fair fighter.
“Well if it makes you feel better I got asked out by a human I met at the church today.” I said quickly before she started talking bad about Jezabel.
“Are you serious?” Donia asked her mood instantly changing which was good. “How did he look? Show me!” Quickly she touched me hand and I shared images of him to her in her head. “He looks delicious to eat from. Did you taste him yet?”
“No,” I shook my head, “I wasn’t hungry.”
“So what!” Donia said excitedly. “If I was you I’d be in bed with him by now!” Donia wickedly grinned. “To bad he’s yours though. Anyways when are you going to see him again?”
“Tomorrow morning.”
“Are you going taste him at all?”
“No. He’s a writer and an artist. He came here to do some research about vampires and then write about it.” Donia rolled her eyes and shook her head as I continued talking about him.
“What?” I asked with a little smile.
“You like him.” Donia stated flat out, my mouth nearly dropped when she said it.
“No, I don’t! Me like a human? Don’t be stupid Donia! We’re not allowed to fall for humans!” I said with a nervous chuckle. But was she right? Did I like him? I mean he was different from the human boys I’ve met in my life. But it wasn’t allowed especially for the Dragonair family.
“Keep telling that to yourself Rach,” Donia said as she stood up. “But don’t worry your secret is safe with me.” Winking at me, she flinted to her room leaving me alone to wonder if I really did like Edward or not. A few hours later I was back at the church reading.
I didn’t leave the church until 9:20 to go change and when I came back three minutes later he was there, pacing up and down like maniacs. I quietly walked over to him and leaned up against the wall, hidden in shadows. He wore the same exact thing like yesterday but wore a black shirt instead.
“I hop you didn’t think I’d forget about out date did you?” I asked as I stepped out right in front of him making him jump back. He smelled like cologne.
“No of course not.” Edward said with a smile.
“Good.”
“So, shall we get going?” He asked as he shoved his hands into his pockets. His heart was beating more faster every minute.
“Lead the way,” I gestured with a wave of my hand. With a small nod he led me outside towards his car. It was a rented silver Dodge Avenger. Getting inside the car I smelled human food, which was in a basket sitting in the back of the car. There was sandwiches filled with turkey, lettuce, tomato, cheese, mustard, and green bell pepper. Plus two champagne glasses, a bottle of champagne, a small chocolate cake, and strawberries.
“Did you have breakfast yet?” He asked as she drove away from the church. The band called Three Days Grace was playing from the cars CD player.
“No,” I said shaking my head. I could see that he hadn’t eaten breakfast because he was too nervous about our date. “Do you mind if we go to the donut shop in town?” Edward asked as he turned at the corner.
“No, that’s fine.” I said with a smile as I listened to the music. “Have you heard of a band called Lacuna Coil?”
“I’ve heard of the band but never listened to them.” Edward said a moment later. “Have you ever heard of a band called Within Temptation before?”
“Their one of my favorite bands! My favorite songs are Angels, Memories, Stand My Ground, The Truth Beneath the Rose, and Aquarius.” I said as I looked out the window to see the average humans walking along the streets of the town.
“My favorites songs are Frozen, What Have You Done Now?, and The Howling.” He began parking into the parking lot of the donut shop. I began too smile as people stopped to look at me. I was so lucky it was cloudy day and I was mostly covered up. When entering the donut shop everyone inside turned their heads toward us. One lady began praying as she looked at me. Another older lady started cursing at me calling me blood drinker.
“Not very friendly are they?” Edward said into my ear as we walked to the counter.
“It depends,” I answered with a chuckle. Since Edward didn’t know Romanian I translated our orders. The boy who was getting our orders couldn’t stop looking at me after our donuts and coffee.
“Does everyone always do this to you?” Edward teased as we walked back to the car.
“Normally,” I said as I got in. “I get use to it.” I began biting into my donut and looking up at Edward, who seemed to be glancing at me. When he saw I caught him looking at me he looked back to the road.
“What are you scared of?” I asked with a foxy smile. He gulped as the continued looking at the road. “Don’t be afraid to tell me anything Edward.” I reached over and touched his hand. He felt very warm and shaky. His heart was beating even harder and his blood rushing through his veins like crazy. He was holding his breath.
“And you know you can keep breathing.” I said with a chuckle as I continued holding his hand. “But please don’t be afraid to tell me anything.” Quietly he nodded his head. I then took my hand off his and sipped the disgusting coffee. I was glad I had to throw up it all later on.
“So where did you grow up?” I asked changing the subject as I bit into the donut again.
“I lived in Providence, Rhode Island until I graduated from high school. And then went to Stanford and majored in history. I’m the middle child out of three kids Shauna is the oldest girl and then Dana is the baby.” Edward answered as he lifted his coffee cup to his lips. “How about you? What’s your story?”
“I um...I’m the youngest out of five. Three boys and another girl. You have Alabaster, Sabina, Nicoli, and Josiah. I lived in Transylvania all my life but went to Cambridge University in England. But my entire family died a few years back. There was a massive murder and I was still in England.”  Part of my story was true, I did have four other siblings named Alabaster, Sabina, Nicoli, and Josiah. But my family was never murdered they just died of old age. But I did go to Cambridge in 2000 and graduated in 2004, I was the top of my year.
“Wow that must have been tough.” Edward said after finishing his donut. His eyes and voice were sympathetic.
“It was but if God knew their time was up then so be it. Sooner or later it’ll be my time hopefully.” I said as I looked out the car window we were heading to the art museum that was touring across Europe and America. I had been meaning to go but never had the chance to.
“Have you been to the art museum yet?” He asked when he pulled into the parking lot to where the art was being held at.
“No.”
“Well I’m glad I’m taking you then.” Edward said as he parked and began getting out. Smiling I also got out of the car and walked beside him. Smirking I also got out of the car and walked beside him. It seemed like he’d already had been here to the art museum because he flashed the security guy a badge and then we were in.
“Come on,” he said as he extended his hand to me. I grabbed it before he stuck it back into his pocket. He smiled and felt relaxed as we held hands. The art was incredible, they weren’t by famous artists that we all know of, they were by teenagers from all over the world. It was a way for them to speak their minds when no one else would listen to them. Every once and awhile I would let go of his hand so that he wouldn’t find his hand to be frozen. But anyway, the pictures were all different. Some were dark, loving, playful, inspirational, nature like, or just copies from famous paintings. There were also sculptures, masks, and land sculptures. Edward would then explain to me what the teenagers was thinking when they did their art. It was just so amazing to listen to him talking about them all. I could feel and see the passion that he had for the arts.
“This one is my favorite one though,” he said as we stopped in front of a large painting. It was a painting of beautiful girl standing over a cliff of rocks. The sun was setting and the dark waves were crashing up against the rocks. The girl was glowing from the sunlight, her long auburn hair flew past her so you could see her face even more. Her long white dress wrapped around her slim body. She looked a lot like me! I then looked down to see who had painted this. My mouth nearly fell from my jaw when I saw the name. It had been done by Velkan! The title for it was: My Sacred Fallen Angel. Oh was he going to pay for this.
“Oh my God.” I whispered quietly not enough for Edward to hear.
“It inspired me to write about vampires even more.” Edward said as we began to walk down the hall of paintings.
“Well, well, well Rachel who’s the new boy?” Asked a voice I didn’t want to hear at all today.
“Jezabel,” I said with a huge fake smile on my face as I turned around to look at her. Along side of the slut was Stephan whose arms were wrapped around her slim waist. As always Jezabel looked and dressed like a prostitute. “What a surprise! I didn’t think you’d be here of all places.”
“Well I was bored so I decided to come here with Stephan.” Jezabel answered as she placed her hand on Stephan’s cheek.
“Well I’m surprised normally you’re always having fun just doing it with nearly all the guys.” I snapped at her making her flinch. Though she had a big mouth and could fight she knew never to mess with me. Because no matter how many guys she’s slept with they would be there for me no matter what. Jezabel’s attention then turned to me and Edward holding hands.
“So this is your new lover? A hu...” But she stopped and just smiled. “Come on Stephan we need to get going now!” Turning she and Stephan walked quietly out of the room.
“That was a little weird,” Edward said shaking his head feeling confused. “Who was she?” Quickly I let go of his hand to brush some strands of hair away from my face.
“An old family friend and a pain in the ass.” I said chuckling softly as I took his hand again. “She loves to bother people and cause a scene with who ever she knows no matter where they are.” I then laid my head on his shoulder.
“Oh.” Was all Edward said as we continued walking around the museum. An hour or two later we headed back to the car.
“So are you ready to eat lunch?” He asked as he began to drive down the street.
“Whatever you feel like doing is fine with me.” I answered with a shrug. I continued to look at him as he drove occasionally he would look at me took and smile before turning his head back to the road. We were going to the park. How cute! Picnic at the park! I had done that once in my life and that was a long time ago.
“It’s going to rain soon.” I announced as we walked into the park. I could smell the wetness of the clouds build up and the temperature lowering every few minutes.
“Nah, it won’t.” Edward said with a smile. He then stopped under the large tree and began setting everything up while I sat up against the tree’s stump.
“So tell me,” I said as he handed me a glass filled with champagne, “why was that one picture your favorite?”
“You’ll probably laugh at me,” Edward said shaking his head as he lay on his side propping himself with his elbow.
“Try me,” I said back, looking directly at him.
“She looked a lot like you,” he answered quickly as he looked away from me. “And when I first saw you yesterday I nearly thought I was dreaming. I mean the person that painted it got every detail perfect. Almost as if you couldn’t be real at all. I didn’t know someone could posses so much beauty until I met you.” His heart began to beat faster and faster just waiting for me to laugh in his face and tell him he was and idiot. But instead I just looked at him.
“So are you ready to eat?” He asked a minute later, sitting up and pulling out a plate.
“Defiantly,” I said as he handed me the plate so I could serve myself. I got a little bit of everything just to make Edward feel better. We ate in silence until we heard the rumbling of the thunder. The next thing we knew, rain began pouring down and hard.’
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Edward shouted as the rain seeped through the tree wetting us. Quickly we placed the food back in the basket before it got soaked. I laughed as he rushed back to the car.
“Come on!” He said waving me to go into the car.
“What’s a little rain going to do to you?!” I cried out as I twirled around in the rain. In no time I was drenched with water and never felt better Edward still seemed reluctant as he sat inside the car, window down, and just watched me dance in the rain.
“Come on,” I said as I gently tugged on his arm. “You’re not scared of anything now are you?” I asked suddenly with a seducing smile. He gulped and nodded. “Tell me what is it?”
“Lightning.”
“Look Edward,” I said placing my hands on my hips, “sooner or later you’re going to have to face your fears right?” He nodded once. “So then suck it up and deal with your fear.” I opened the car door, put out my hand to him, and he took it. Smiling I pulled Edward away from car and willingly he came. We just stood there; hand in hand, and our faces facing the sky and rain. We stood for a few more minutes out in the rain before we ran back to the car.
“Do you mind if we go to my hotel and get dry?” Edward asked as he shook his head wetting the inside of the car and me. “I can have your clothes dry cleaned in no time too.”
“The sounds perfect,” I said as I happily looked at him. He smiled back at me and laced his fingers with mine. He didn’t have to speak and just look at me to make me like him ever more. Even though it was forbidden it didn’t matter to me. I wanted him in my life more than anything in the world. We never said a word to each other while in the car. Just having him next to me and listening to the rain was enough for me.
When we reached the five star hotel we were overwhelmed with cameras and screaming girls. They were all waiting for Edward. He seemed upset when he stopped the car in front of the hotel. He was upset because they had found him because someone had sold him out.
“So are you going to open the car door for me or am I going to have to open it myself?” I simply teased as I looked at him. He smiled sweetly and then opened his door. He quickly autographed and took pictures for his fans before coming to my side of the car door. When he opened the door I took his awaiting hand and walked inside as cameras flashed and screaming fans appeared left and right.
“Does everyone always do this to you?” I asked repeating Edward’s exact words he had said to me earlier.
Smiling he answered, “Normally, I got use to it.” We both started laughing as we entered the elevator. I was the first to take a shower while Edward ordered food from service. After I came out I had just a white robe on and nothing else underneath. As I combed my hair I sat down, legs crossed, and watched the TV. The room was more like a suite than anything else. His bed was king size and was right next to the windows where you could see the beauty of Romania. I could hear the water running as Edward took his shower.
A knock came from the door a few moments later. Walking over to the front door I opened it to find a waiter with the flood on a cart. Surrounding him were paparazzi taking pictures of me left and right. The waiter apologized to me in our native tongue saying that they followed him like bees attracted to honey. Smiling I told him not to worry about it. The paparazzi continued taking pictures and asking for my name.
“Okay people look,” I said raising my hand telling them to stop. And to no surprise they stopped talking and taking pictures. “Thank you. Now um....I’m not going to tell you guys my name but I’d appreciate it if you guys left us alone. We’re just here for vacation and we’d be very happy if you just left us be. That means no pictures, no following us or anything else. Do you think you can handle that?” I smiled sweetly as I waited for their response.
“Come on guys,” said one of the male paparazzi, “lets give them a break shall we? Besides I heard that Brad Pitt is in another hotel nearby.” And after he said that everyone stampeded out of the hall. With content I closed the door and as I turned around I saw Edward leaning against the wall, smiling. He only had a towel wrapped around his waist! Water dripped from his hair and down his chest and well built abs. Now that was very hot.
“What?” I asked as I plucked a grape from its vine which was in a bowl from the cart. Popping it into my mouth I stared at him silently.
“You are amazing,” he answered with a chuckle. “What you just did right not was incredible.”
“Well it really wasn’t that hard,” I answered with a shrug as I walked over to him. “You just have to say it the right way that’s all.”
“No, I think it’s just that anyone would do anything for you. They could never turn down someone as beautiful as you.” His hands brushed a strand of my hair back away from my face.
“Even you?” I teased as his face came closer to mine. His warm breath, warming up my cold skin.
“Even me,” he whispered before his lips could touch mine. Instead of his lips feeling cool they were warm and sticky. I then placed my hands on his chest and moved them up and down his body. He wrapped one arm around my waist and the other was tangled in my hair. The kisses were hard and fierce but slow and steady. After awhile he would pull back but he would always come back for more. He then lifted me up and took me to the bed, lying on top of me. As the kiss became more intimate all I wanted to do was bend his neck back and bite him. And when I was close to doing it I pulled back.
“Are you okay?” He asked as he looked at me, nearly out of breath. I just wanted to devour him all and rip his throat out but I didn’t want to be and animal like other vampires out there.
“Just dizzy that’s all.” I said as I laid my head back on the bed looking away from his eyes.
“Do you need Aspirin? I can get you some right now.” Edward said his voice sounding a little nervous.
“No,” I shook my head, “just a bit of rest that’s all.”
“Alright,” Edward said kissing my forehead before getting off of me and walking to the closet. I then closed my eyes, pretending to fall asleep. On the TV Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn was playing and so I listened to it for some time.
An hour later my clothes came back all clean and dry. Quickly putting on my clothes, Edward sat on the couch and continued watching the TV. This was the last time I was going to see him. I wouldn’t want to harm him in any way. Plus it was against the rules to be with a human. It would be difficult at first but it would be better than anything else that I’m capable of doing.
“Ready?” Edward asked as he knocked on the bathroom door in were I was.
“Hold up,” I said as I slipped on my clean shirt. Brushing my clean wet hair I made sure I was decent. With a sigh I opened the door Edward was now sitting down on the couch watching TV. I felt depressed because I had to let him go. It was the sake of my clan and him.
“Okay now I’m ready.” I said as I stood right before him.
“Alright,” Edward answered as he turned off the TV and then got up. “Lets get you back to the church.” Getting out his keys he and I left his room. We drove in silence as the music played in the background. As we reached the corner before the church I sensed that there were a few more vampires from my clan waiting for me.
“Damn it!” I said under my breath.
“What?” Edward asked as he turned his head to look at me.
“Stop the car,” I demanded.
“What? Why?” Edward asked confused.
“Edward please stop the car!” I raised my voice, staring down at him. With a shriek the car stopped a few yards away from the church.
“What’s going on Rachel?” Edward demanded as he looked at me, still confused.
“We can’t see each other anymore Edward.” I said straight out. “There are complications that have come up and I just can’t see you.”
“Wait...hold on.” Edward lifted up his hands. “What happened? Maybe I can help!”
“No, it’s a private situation and you can’t do anything about it.” I said shaking my head. “Don’t even think about trying to find me!”
“Rachel, this is insane!” Edward threw up his hands. “Why can’t you tell me?”
“Edward, please don’t make this harder then it already is!” I cried out, with tears coming down my cheeks.
“Rachel,” Edward whispered as he reached over and pulled me into his soft warm chest. His heart beat steadily as I cried softly, my tears staining his clean shirt.
“Please, just don’t find me; I wouldn’t want you getting hurt.” I pleaded as I pulled away from him and wiped away my tears.
“I can’t promise you anything Rach,” Edward shook his head.
“Please,” I begged, he didn’t answer. “I have to go. Good-bye Edward.” I opened the door and walked away from the car. When I looked back Edward was starting the car. As I walked towards the church, they were there. Stupid Jezabel had to go and tell the freakin elders my business.
“What?” I asked as I folded my arms looking at them with an attitude.
“You know that we’re not allowed to fraternize with humans unless you’re drinking from them. And that means you are not allowed to fall in love with a human.” Kaleo answered with folded arms.
“You know the rules Rachel,” sneered Jezabel.
“Mind your own damn business Jezabel.” I snarled as I clenched my fists. I wanted to just attack her right there and then.
“To late for that,” giggled Jezabel.
“Knock it off Jezabel,” said a voice from behind me, it was Velkan. “Look Kaleo, William, and everyone else this will not be necessary. Knowing Rachel will not be seeing the human again. So please can we go back to our business?”
“Rachel?” Kaleo looked at me.
“It won’t happen again Kaleo,” I rolled my eyes. Well not in front of them anyway.
“Alright then let’s go.” Kaleo said before everyone disappeared except for Jezabel and Velkan.
“Don’t think your getting away with this Rachel.” Sneered Jezabel before she smiled at Velkan.
“Jezabel you better get out of here before I rip out your throat.” I snarled, showing off my canines. And within a second she was gone.
“You’re welcome,” Velkan said as I turned around to face him. He had that sexy smile on his face.
“Who’s said I needed your help?” I snapped as I flinted to inside the church it.
“Well it kinda seemed like you needed it.” Velkan shrugged as he followed inside. “I’m just being nice unlike Jezabel.”
“Aren’t you one of her little pets?” I snapped as I lit a new red candle.
“A little jealous are we?” I turned to glare at him. “Don’t answer that,” he shook his head, “but whatever you’ve heard isn’t true. Jezabel only wishes she could have me. My taste isn’t for girls like her. But you probably don’t care.” He leaned up against the wall just watching me lit the news that had been blown out by the wind.
“I saw the painting. The one of me.” I calmly said as I pushed my hair behind my ear. “Why me?”
“You just inspired me, you always look so mysterious. So secretive and sacred. Like as if you could take on a thousand werewolves by yourself and not lose.” He was now closer to me, looking at me as if I was the only thing he ever wanted.
“I seem to inspire everyone these days.” I scoffed as I blew out the match.
“Well who wouldn’t want to be inspired by you?” Velkan asked as he continued getting closer to me.
“Don’t mess with me Velkan, I’m not one to mess with.” I sighed as I walked away from his gorgeous face. I then flinted to my hiding place, he followed.
“I don’t want to mess with you Rachel,” Velkan smirked as he sat next to me. My God did he smell good today!
“Then what do you want Velkan?” I asked in a whisper. Our faces coming closer and closer to each other.
“You,” Velkan said so softly that only a vampire could hear. And with that he kissed me gently. I then pulled away looking confused. Something didn’t seem right; I could feel that he was lying.
“Leave,” I snarled before slapping him in the face. “Your such an ass.” I pushed him off the ledge of the seat and so that he fell on the floor. “I can’t believe you!”
“I know you want me Rachel. Everyone wants me and I want you.” Velkan smirked with a chuckle.
“So what, so you can hit it and quit it?” I asked tears streaming down my face. “Get out!”
“No I don’t think so.” Velkan shook his head and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Fine then I will!” I then flinted out of the church and back to my house. I cried and cried right as I got to my room. And for a moment I thought Velkan was different from the other boys in our bad boy’s group.
“What’s wrong babe?” Donia asked as she sat on my bed and brushed my hair with her fingers.
“I’m in love with someone I’m not supposed to be with. And I thought I was starting to like someone until I saw his true colors.” I cried as I lifted my face up to look directly at Donia.
